Dr. Sara Benítez
With over 10 years of experience in public health and epidemiology, Dr. Benitez is passionate about improving cancer outcomes and reducing health inequalities. As an Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, she conducts cutting-edge research using routinely collected cancer data, to examine diagnostic delays, quality of care, and survival trends, publishing in high-impact journals such as JAMA and Lancet.
As a Cancer Project Coordinator and Consultant for the Pan American Health Organization, Dr. Benitez coordinates situational assessments and technical support to Member States. She also co-organizes the ECHO-ELA program, which aims to disseminate cervical cancer prevention and control strategies in Latin America and the Caribbean, in collaboration with the U.S. National Cancer Institute and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Benitez has expertise in non-communicable disease epidemiology and international public health. She uses these skills to inform policy and practice and to mentor and train the next generation of health professionals.
